Welcome to QC transit. com: the only web address you need to remember for QC public transportation!
In the Iowa/Illinois Quad Cities, Bettendorf Transit, Davenport CitiBus, and Rock Island County Area’s MetroLINK work together to provide dependable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly fixed route transportation for citizens. In accordance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines, these systems also offer service options for seniors and those with disabilities. In the Iowa QC, these paratransit services are provided through city contracts with River Bend Transit. River Bend Transit (RBT) also performs rural county transportation services covering the four counties of Scott, Muscatine, Clinton, and Cedar, and provides a variety of other specialized transportation services.

Seasoned transit riders know the extensive access our QC systems provide, and newer riders soon discover that “knowing the systems” literally “pays off”, as trading a car for the bus just a few times a week can really add up. Keeping track of various information resources, or learning to use multiple systems smoothly, however, can be challenging -- that’s why there’s qctransit.com. This web gateway provides a link to each system’s website where you can find route maps, timetables, and detailed up-to-date information about the system of interest to you!

One address, many destinations…. qctransit.com!!

Thank You to Everyone Who Participated in Bike to Work Week and Completed the Commuter Challenge Survey!

Here are some of the survey results:

Overall, QC residents biked 2,893 miles, walked 63 miles, and took public transit for 55 miles throughout the week! That’s more than $500.00 in fuel savings!

34.7% of this year’s participants were first-time Bike to Work Week Commuters

The community with the most participants was Davenport with 32% of the surveys, followed by Bettendorf with 17% and Rock Island with 14%

94.7% of survey respondents committed to using alternative modes of transportation for future commutes…and 47 participants committed to using them at least once a week, weather permitting.

Seven QC Employers offered their employees incentives to participate in Bike to Work Week, so we’d like to offer a special thanks to Bi-State Regional Commission, Carleton Life Support Services, Genesis Health Systems, Oscar Meyer, Scott County Family Y, Two Rivers YMCA, and Zimmerman Rock Island for promoting a less-congested, healthier Quad Cities!

Congratulations for all the great work!

And Remember,

Bus - Bike - Walk

The Quad Cities Transportation Advocacy Group (QC TAG) “works to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting a balanced approach to transportation that encourages walking, biking, and public transportation”.

QC TAG encourages the use of current QCA resources for getting around in a healthier, greener, and much less expensive fashion.  They also work with communities and city governments toward the goal of making our metro area safer and more accommodating for ALL modes of transportation.

Did you know...

  • If Americans used public transportation for roughly ten percent of daily travel needs, the United States would reduce its dependence on imported oil from the Persian Gulf by more than 40 percent.
  • Every $1 invested in public transportation projects generates from $4 to $9 in local economic activity.
  • Riding a transit bus is 79 times safer than car travel.
  • In 2007, Americans took 10.3 billion trips on public transportation – the highest ridership level in 50 years.
  • Since 1995 public transportation ridership is up 32 percent.
  • Based on current gas prices, a person can save more than $8,000 per year by taking public transportation instead of driving.
  • Each year, public transportation use in the U.S. saves 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline. This represents almost 4 million gallons of gasoline (the equivalent of 300,000 fewer automobile fill-ups) per day.
  • The typical public transit rider consumes on average one half of the oil consumed by an automobile driver.
  • Without public transit systems and their effects on our urban landscapes, American households would drive 102.2 billion more miles per year.
  • When commuters ride public transportation or walk, contact with neighbors tends to increase, ultimately helping to bring a community together.
  • By 2025, an estimated one in five persons will be over age 65. Providing mobility options is critical for older Americans and for those who care for them.
  • Public transportation produces 95% less carbon monoxide (CO), 90% less in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and about half as much carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx), per passenger mile, as private vehicles. Energy-related carbon dioxide emissions represent 82% of total US human-made greenhouse emissions.
  • Public transportation fosters a more active lifestyle. 2001 National Household Travel Survey data analysis finds that walking to and from transit helps inactive persons fulfill a significant portion of recommended minimum daily exercise needs.
